Last year, HealthWorks, a program of Triangle Community Works,
formed a group for GLBTQA people in the Triangle area of North Carolina
who want to stay healthy, lose weight, and/or socialize while enjoying
the great outdoors. Its walkers enjoyed a combined loss of over
150 pounds last year, lots of hours of good conversation, and new
friendships.

TCW INVITES YOU TO JOIN THE HEALTHWORKS
WALKERS FOR THEIR March 2008 WALKS/HIKES SUNDAYS
AT:
Walks in MARCH will take place on the NC Museum of
Art campus along the Reedy Creek trail. The Museum is located at
2110 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh two blocks north of the State Fairgrounds
complex. From I-40, take the Wade Avenue split toward Raleigh. Exit
at the Blue Ridge Road exit and turn left unto Blue Ridge Road.
Turn right at Reedy Creek (look for stone sign and flags at Museum
entrance). Immediately turn right into the parking lot adjacent
to the single-story gray warehouse.
We will gather at 2:45 PM and the
walk will start at 3:00. Look for the smiley face sign.
Please join us....and bring a friend or two. You
don't have to be a triathelete to participate. We have walkers from
all levels and all body types. Please note that although we all
enjoy the social aspect of the group, its primary purpose is to
help with physical fitness. The group usually walks for about 90
minutes. Dress warmly!
If you choose to bring your dog with you, please be mindful of
park rules for pets, bring waste clean up bags, and be considerate
of other walkers.
After the walk, those who want to
socialize more may go for a walk through the Museum galleries and/or
go to dinner at a local restaurant.
The group changes location each month, so join the Yahoo!
group to keep informed of the newest walking location.
PLEASE NOTE: Participation is voluntary and at the risk and responsibility
of the individual. TCW is not liable for walkers. Before starting
this or any exercise program, you should consult your physician.
Stretch before walking & bring water to stay hydrated especially
on hot days.
Health
Referral Programs
HealthWorks is
TCW's initiative to support the health and well-being of LGBT communities
through providing:
Access to health and wellness
information
Referrals to LGBT-sensitive
providers
Educational materials for
LGBT communities and health care providers as well as their staff
The Health Providers Resources Project (HPRP) is
working with the LGBT communities in the Research Triangle area
to find primary health care providers willing to be identified as
a welcoming practice to LGBT folks.
The Gay and Lesbian Helpline needs good referrals
for people looking for LGBT sensitive health care providers
What will happen with the information I provide
you?
HPRP Staff and volunteers will contact your health
care provider. They will be informed about HPRP and the Gay &
Lesbian Helpline
The provider will be asked if they would agree to be listed in the
Helplines referral database as LGBT-friendly.
A disclaimer will be used stating that inclusion on the list denotes
being a welcoming practice to members of LGBT communities and does
not reflect the sexual orientation of the provider or any of their
staff. If appropriate, the provider can identify as being gay, lesbian,
bisexual or transgender if they so choose.
A series of short questions will be asked of the provider about
the percentage of clients who are LGBT, resources available to them
that are LGBT related, and if they would like additional information
or training for themselves or their staff.
If the provider agrees to be a referral, they will be put into the
referral database

that you share with us is confidential and will not be used for
