Community Donation
Many worthwhile organizations and charities rely on community donation in order to function and to provide helpful services and/or goods to those in need. Unfortunately, however, not every organization that asks for donations will be reputable and legitimate. That’s why it is important to always be smart when planning to donate to charity, whether it be just a few dollars, the contents of a closet or storage bin, or a large sum of money. Donations for charity should really and truly be used for the purpose for which they were given, which means it’s important to search out and select only the most reputable organizations when giving money or other goods. In addition to being willing to give money or other needed goods, such as food or clothing, to charitable community organizations that support community work and community service, all individuals are also asked to consider volunteering in their communities in some capacity. Volunteering doesn’t cost a thing except for a person’s time and desire to help, so it is an easy way to give for those who don’t have a lot of money or who simply don’t have the goods currently needed by the community. Contact organizations that are of interest in order to find out more about volunteering. Also, remember that fundraising for the community isn’t always about simply soliciting donations or asking for money directly. In fact, many organizations will hold special events, like car washes or bake sales, in lieu of simply coming out and asking for charitable giving. Individuals are advised to always ask where any money collected at such a fundraiser will be going and how it will be used before giving or taking part in the fundraiser. Just as individuals should only give donations to legitimate organizations, only legitimate fundraisers should be honored.
Finally, do keep in mind that any gift given—be it clothing, money, or participation in a fundraiser, is regarded as tax deductible by the United States government. Therefore, thorough records of all charitable giving should be kept for the best results and for the most benefit for the giver and for the receiving organization.
